West Wight Archery Club

Club History

The Club welcomes beginners and runs courses when when there are sufficient numbers.

If you are interested in doing a beginners course please use the contact us form on the Contacts page.

West Wight Archery Club was founded in 1987, and began outdoor shooting at Calbourne and indoors at the Brighstone Scout Hut.

As the club grew Newport Drill Hall became the indoor range with Brightstone being kept on for juniors, until the site was sold for development.

In 1994 the search began for an outdoor range with more availability as Calbourne was shared with football and cricket.

In 1995 the club moved to its present home at Medina Leisure Centre which has given the Club the flexibility to shoot 4 days a week in the summer and weekends in the winter.

In 2021 the Club moved its indoor range to the Island Riding Centre in Newport, which has given the Club the scope to shoot up to 30m indoors.

Many of the Club archers have competed in local tournaments with great success, some going on to shoot for Hampshire and many representing the Isle of Wight at the NatWest Island Games winning both team and individual medals.
